How should I choose the power rating for an electric heater?

As a rule of thumb, we recommend choosing devices with an average power rating of 100W per square meter (m2). For example, a 1000W device will be sufficient for a 12 m2 bedroom. This value may be higher for environments where thermal insulation is lacking, or drop as low as 60 W/m2 in well-insulated new buildings (assuming that the insulation is up to code and is taken into account in architectural calculations). See the products section of our website for power rating options.

Usage environment and user habits and preferences play a role in the heater selection. Taking into account factors such as the size of the room, insulation performance and how frequently the doors are opened, refer to the chart below to select the optimum power rating for your convection heater.

Room Area (m2) Recommended Heater Power (Watt)
3 - 6 500
6 - 12 750
8 - 16 1000
9 - 17 1500
12 - 24 2000
14 - 28 2500

The heat requirement depends on factors such as the exterior temperature, room heat isolation, door open/close cycles. The values stated on the above table are for average conditions with an outside temperature of 8-10 degrees therefore when calculating the heater power these factors should be taken into consideration.
